Steve Knauts, Ph.D.

Dr. Knauts is a licensed psychologist who has over 22 years of clinical and forensic experience. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Florida. During graduate school, Dr. Knauts trained at the North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center, an inpatient forensic facility. He then completed his pre-doctoral internship at Florida State Hospital, another forensic facility that houses adults who have been found incompetent to stand trial or not guilty by reason of insanity. Dr. Knauts has worked at Medlin Treatment Center since 1999, and as a licensed psychologist since 2005. He has provided group and individual psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults, specializing in treating sexual trauma and sexual behavior problems. Dr. Knauts has been approved by the Georgia Department of Corrections and the United States Probation Office in the Northern District of Georgia to provide sex offender treatment for individuals who have been convicted of a sex offense.
Dr. Knauts has conducted over 1,000 psychological, psychosexual, and parenting evaluations. Dr. Knauts conducts forensic psychological and psychosexual evaluations on behalf of Georgia state courts and for civil litigation across the country. He has provided expert testimony over 85 times to many state courts in Georgia, including jury trials. He has also provided expert testimony for civil cases in Minnesota and California. He is the co-author of Avoiding Sexual Dangers: A Parent’s Guide to Protecting Your Child. He also co-authored a CD-ROM, Breaking Through Denial, for mental health professionals who provide sex offender treatment. Dr. Knauts is an engaging public speaker and has conducted several workshops and trainings for mental health professionals, foster parents, attorneys, and the community. He has given presentations for organizations such as Prevent Child Abuse Georgia, Georgia CASA, Georgia Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers, and National Organization for Victim Assistance. Dr. Knauts is authorized to practice in the 43 states that participate in PSYPACT under the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) and Temporary Authorization to Practice (TAP).
